After a quick stop at Hamley’s toy store, I was back on the Underground at Piccadilly to The British Museum, passing the AppleStore on the way. My first experience at the museum was an excellent lunch at the Great Court Restaurant. I had the “Lamb pithivier … Braised lamb and Biddenden mead pie, roasted celeriac and carrot, buttered rainbow chard and apple cider jus.”
There was an exhibition of the Bayeux Tapestry, that I would have loved to see, but it was booked and sold out thru December. They had Bayeux Tapestry pillows at the Great Court Restaurant.
The Rosetta Stone lives at the British Museum, since 1802, when captured from France following the Napoleonic Wars. It is in Gallery 4 across from the historical Round Reading Room of the British Museum Library that lies at the center of the Great Court.
The “happy pharaoh,” Amenhotep III (18th Dynasty), and King Ramesses II (19th Dynasty), flank the Rosetta Stone.
Then I walked randomly thru the galleries, taking photos of things that caught my eye, including Ancient Egyptian and Clocks.
