Glendronach Distillery & The Highlands
A Highland Whiskey from Forgue, near Huntly, in Aberdeenshire. There were some other distilleries I wanted to tour, but they were closed for maintenance, or booked full. Glendronach is a small-to-medium sized distillery founded in 1826 by James Allardes. It has been closed and reopened, bought and sold, over the years. I don’t remember having it before this visit, and I have to say I liked the samples very much. I prefer Speyside whiskies to Highlands, but this one is quite nice, available mainly in 12, 15 and 18 year varieties, but there are many other age selections and sister distilleries.

Next I headed into the Highlands toward Inverness, passing the village of Keith, and the Duke of Gordon’s Monument on Lady Hill in Elgin. Then I drove alongside Loch Ness and had a genuine Nessie sighting!
Highland Bear Lodge
I stayed in a cabin at Highland Bear Lodge, a lush woodland setting near Loch Ness.
